The Challenge - Hokitika to Greymouth  - 95km
The Classic -Cowboy Paradise to Greymouth - 59km 
The Cruise -  Kumara to Greymouth - 21km

If you are planning to ride the trail on this day but not as part of the event please check out the latest information on the timing of the race at the various locations here. We encourage all riders on the trail at the same time as the event to ride in the south to north direction.

Kumara Races

This old-fashioned country horse race meeting, established in 1887, is held annually at the historic Kumara Race track. The main race, the Kumara Gold Nuggets, boasts a real gold nugget as the prize. Come along with friends and family, enjoy the entertainment, food and a fun day out.

Wild West Backyard Ultra

Come and experience New Zealand’s most scenic Backyard Ultra, running between the ocean and the mountains, on the wild West Coast.

The Wild West Backyard Ultra is part of the global Backyard Ultra movement, where runners complete a 6.7km loop every hour, on the hour, until only one remains. The Hokitika course offers a truly unique challenge — ocean views, rugged landscapes, and the wild beauty of the West Coast.  

150 competitors  are expected from across New Zealand and beyond, alongside supporters, volunteers, and local spectators. 

 Duration: Up to 48+ hours, Course: 6.7km loop – beachfront & coastal trails NZs flattest and most scenic BYU course.

Women’s Fun Day Out

Organised by the Rotary Club of Greymouth, this community event raises funds for the Cancer Society while bringing people together for a day of fun. Participants can enjoy a 21km bike ride from Kumara to Karoro Domain, followed by a 4km walk or run to the Blaketown Rugby Club. Take part in the full course or choose the sections that suit you best. The day concludes with a relaxed community BBQ.
